Viagra Precautions
It is important that the doctor has your complete medical history prior to taking Viagra. Consult with your doctor if you have a cardiovascular condition such as high blood pressure, kidney impairment, liver impairment, sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, anatomical deformations of the penis, bleeding disorders, or retinitis pigmentosa.
Drug Interactions
People who take medications containing nitrates should not take Viagra. Before taking Viagra, tell your doctor about all nonprescription and prescription medications you use, especially any nitrate medications (e.g. nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate), nitroprusside (any "nitric oxide donor" medicines), quinidine, quinine, verapamil, cimetidine, erythromycin, clarithromycin, azole antifungals (e.g. itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole), mibefradil, niacin, omeprazole, rifamycins (e.g. rifampin), medication for HIV infection, or high blood pressure medicines.
How Viagra Works
Viagra works by allowing the blood vessels that supply the penis with blood to relax, which increases blood flow during sexual stimulation. Greater blood flow leads to harder erections that last longer. Without sexual stimulation, no erection will occur. Do not take Viagra more than once daily. Do not take Viagra within 24 hours of taking any other ED prescription medication.
